Mish wins Drapers’ Niche Retailer of the Year Award

The Cornish lingerie specialist, Mish, brings back to Wadebridge their 2nd industry award to sit alongside last year’s Stars Award for Best Specialist E-Tailer. Mish won Best Niche Retailer of the Year at the Drapers Independents Awards 2016, where they were judged for their extensive range of specialist lingerie, potential for future growth and shopping experience.

“It’s amazing to have won Best Niche Fashion Retailer of the Year! We focus a lot on providing problem solving lingerie and accessories for our customers, such as the Halto and Bandelettes, so it’s a massive achievement to be recognised in the industry for our niche product range,” said Michele Poynter, Managing Director of Mish. “We’ve been nominated for the Drapers Independents Awards a couple of times before, so I’m over the moon to finally bring the award back home to my team and for my customers.”

Mish caters to the needs of women who require larger cup sized bras and swimwear, and since the  last year have also expanded their range to include up and coming independent lingerie brands. “The fashion industry should take note of its best independents, as they provide inspiration on so many levels. Offering some of the best customer service in the fashion industry, indies know how to keep their customers happy – and keep them coming back,” said Keely Stocker, Editorial Director of Drapers.

Courtaulds Ltd goes into administration following BHS collapse

Reports have come in from the Derby Telegraph that iconic British manufacturer Courtaulds, established in 1919, ceased its operations yesterday resulting in a loss of 350 jobs. CUK Clothing which merged with Courtaulds in 2006 also went into administration, and the company partially blamed the BHS collapse for the situation as the high street retailer was one of Courtaulds’ largest customers.

Dilip Dattani, partner at RSM Restructuring Advisory and one of the administrators to Courtaulds, said: “The administration of BHS has added to the challenge of operating within a fiercely competitive market for seasonal products. This has left the directors with little choice but to place the companies into administration. Regrettably, we have been forced to make 350 employees redundant to align with the current order book, and we are assisting them with their claims to the Redundancy Payments service.”

Some of the brands produced in the Belper factory were Pretty Polly and Aristoc as well as private-label garments for retailers including hosiery, lingerie, casual wear, jackets and coats.
